About Laura's March | 2010 Event Details

Laura's March is a 5K event in which participants can either walk or run, whichever they prefer, and either individually, in pairs, or even as a team. A little courtesy and common sense can go a long way in allowing participants to do what they enjoy most while mindful of the safety of others on the Bike Path. Those who want more of a challenge can set and monitor not only their own pace but also their own distance.
Inspiration
We look upon Laura's March as a wonderful opportunity to bring community, friends, and family together to remember Laura in her birthday month in a manner she would have loved and for a worthy cause, supporting programs that seek to end violence against women and address its consequences using constructive, restorative ways. The Bike Path and Oakledge Park were selected for Laura's March because Laura was a frequent visitor to both. On the Bike Path, she could be observed enjoying a ride, a run, or just a pleasant walk. At Oakledge Park, she could be observed at a cook-out with friends, taking a swim, or playing tennis with her family.
Beneficiaries
The 2010 Laura's March will raise funds for the FAHC SANE Program, which provides care and services to children and adult victims of sexual and physical violence, by contributing funds needed for nurses to attend the annual meeting of the International Association of Forensic Nurses in Pittsburgh. There they will participate in opportunities not available in Vermont to augment their skills in dealing with victims.
The March will also raise funds for the WRCC and Frog Hollow in their collaborative art project with a two-fold objective: to provide sexual assault victims a means of healing by giving them a voice through the art itself; and to run workshops and exhibits of the finalized art pieces for middle and high school youths to build an appreciation of art, bring awareness to the pervasive problem of sexual violence, and teach the understanding and compassion that are necessary for positive social change.
Additionally, the LKW Fund will donate a portion of the proceeds to other organizations and programs in the Vermont community in line with our mission.
